On Tuesday, Vinesh started her Olympics journey by beating the unbeaten Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki. She secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating Oksana Livach of Ukraine. Her winning performance came when she outmuscled Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez to reach the finals.
Vinesh Phogat disqualified
Vinesh who was playing in 50 kg freestyle wrestling, was found overweight by 100g on the second day of the competition. Olympic rules don’t allow for this and as a result, she was disqualified.
Vinesh got to know about her being overweight the previous night. She didn’t sleep the whole night and worked hard to shed the extra kgs. She lost 900 gms, but that small margin of 100 gms. is where she lost.
Will Vinesh Phogat get a medal after disqualification?
After her disqualification, in the finals, she will be replaced by the player who lost against her in the semifinal. Unfortunately, she will end up in the last rankings in the 50 kg event, and thus, there’ll be no medal for her.
