Nishad Kumar is a 25-year-old high jumper athlete from Himachal Pradesh, India. He plays in the T47 category reserved for players with unilateral upper limb impairment.
Nishad was quite young when he lost his right hand. Because of the injury, he was forced to miss school for an entire year.
On seeing his principal awarding medals to students before the school assembly, he aspires to be at that place one day. He started taking up sports events like 200m and 400m sprint, as well as high jump.
He moved to the Para-athletic category in 2017 and started training under coaches Vikram Chaudhary and Naseem Ahmed.
Over the years, Nishad has participated in many international events and won medals. He has won a silver medal in Tokyo Paralympics.
