Born on 1 March 1944, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was an Indian politician and ex-CM of West Bengal. He was born into a family of priests and studied Bengali literature at Presidency College.
He joined the Communist Party of India in 1996 and over the 50 years of his political career, became the party’s tallest leader after Basu.
He succeeded Jyoti Basu and precedented the current Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee.
