Vasundhara Raje Family
Vasundhara Raje Scindia was born in the illustrious Scindia royal family, known for its historical significance in Gwalior. Her father, Jivajirao Scindia, was the last reigning Maharaja of Gwalior and her mother Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia, was a notable political leader. She has 4 siblings: One brother and 3 sisters. One of her sister, Padmavati Raje Scindia, tragically died at the age of 22. Madhavrao Scindia, her borther who was associated with the Indian National Congress,passed away in 2001. One of her sister, Usha Raje, got married into a distinguished family in Nepal. Her younger sister, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, currently serves as a Member of Parliament representing Gwalior.
In 1972, Vasundhara Raje was married to Hemant Singh of the Dholpur royal family. They separated shortly after their son, Dushyant Singh, was born.

Vasundhara Raje Early Life & Career
She was exposed to political discourse very early in life through her mother’s active involvement in politics and social causes. In 1984, her political career began when she joined the BJP’s National Executive shortly after the party’s formation. In 1985, she became Vice-President of the Yuva Morcha (youth wing) of the Rajasthan BJP and was elected to the Rajasthan Assembly from Dholpur. In the year 1989, she secured a seat in the Lok Sabha from Jhalawar. Since then she was re-elected as an MP multiple times.
In 1998, Raje was appointed as the Minister of State for External Affairs in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government. During this time, she played a crucial role in India’s nuclear tests. Subsequently, she held various departments including Small Scale Industries and Agro & Rural Industries; Department of Personnel and Training; Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space.
