After graduating with a degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College, he entered film industry. Initially, he worked as a distributor before founding his production company, Red Giant Movies, in 2008. His first production was Kuruvi, and he continued to produce successful films such as Manmadan Ambu (2010) and 7aum Arivu (2011).
He began his acting career with a guest appearance in the film Aadhavan (2009), but he gained fame with his lead role in Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012), which was both produced by him and became a commercial success. Udhayanidhi’s political journey began when he was appointed Secretary of the Youth Wing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in July 2019. He actively campaigned for DMK candidates during the 2019 parliamentary elections.
The year 2021 is when he won a seat representing the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency, in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. Later, his appointement as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu was announced. On September 28, 2024, his role was elevated to Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
