Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950 in Vadnagar, a small town in northern Gujarat. The Modi family lived in a small single-story house.
As a child, Modi balanced his studies with working at the family’s tea stall to help make ends meet. His friends remember him as a hard-working curious kid. He would spend hours reading in the local library.
At a young age, Modi felt a strong urge to make a difference in society. He was highly influenced by the works of Swami Vivekananda. At 17, he left home to travel across India for two years, exploring various cultures. When he returned, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Ahmedabad. His daily routine after joining the organization began at 5 am and went on till late night.
In the late 1970s, the young Narendra Modi joined the movement to restore democracy in India during the Emergency period.

Narendra Modi Political Career
In 1987, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the general secretary of the party’s Gujarat unit a year later.
In October 2001, Modi was appointed Chief Minister of Gujarat following a poor response to a devastating earthquake by the previous government. In a year of his tenure, he faced the 2002 Gujarat riots which resulted in significant communal violence. Despite controversies, Modi was credited with implementing policies that led to substantial economic growth in Gujarat. He won consecutive state assembly elections in 2002, 2007, and 2012, becoming the longest-serving chief minister of Gujarat for twelve and a half years and solidifying his position in the party.
In 2014 general elections, Modi led the BJP to a historic victory securing an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha. He became Prime Minister on May 26, 2014. He continued experiencing his political success in the 2019 general elections. Following another decisive victory in the 2024 elections, Modi was sworn in for a third consecutive term on June 9, 2024.
