His early education took place in a Tamil government school. Chandrasekaran pursued higher education at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology, earning a bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences. For his masters, he enrolled in the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirappalli and completed MCA.
In 1987,he joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern. Over the years, he built a remarkable career with working at various positions in TCS, starting with his appointment as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2007. Two years later, he got at the CEO rank of the company at the age of 46, making him one of the youngest executives to lead a major company within the Tata Group. Under his leadership, TCS flourished and became one of the largest IT services firms globally with a market cap exceeding $70 billion
In addition to his responsibilities at TCS, he has held various leadership positions within other Tata companies and industry bodies, including serving as the chairman of Tata Motors and Tata Global Beverages. In 2017, Chandrasekaran came his appointment as the Chairman of Tata Sons as a stabilizing move after the ouster of Cyrus Mistry.
