Mahendra Singh Mewar is the eldest son of Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar and Maharani Sushila Kumari and is part of the House of Mewar, which has a historical role as custodians of Udaipur. His father angered by this named all his properties to his younger son, Arvind Singh Mewar breaking the tradition of making eldest son the heir. But nobles of Mewar and common people saw Mahendra Singh as the real heir and thus, on 19th November 1984, organized his Raj Tilak ceremony in Udaipur.
In 1989, Mahendra Singh became a Member of Parliament for Chittorgarh, representing the Indian National Congress party. His political involvement extended beyond mere representation; he played a role in various committees, including one advising the Ministry of Industry in 1990. also contributed to social causes through the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, which focused on preserving the cultural heritage of the region and supporting local communities.
